When traveling via Airplane or Greyhound bus, is a duffel bag acceptable or are you required to use luggage?

Can you answer Naruto Masamune’s question about Luggage?:

I’m traveling to Canada next year, and can’t afford actual luggage bags, so I’m hoping a duffel bag or two and perhaps even a backpack will be acceptable to take on an airplane or if there are certain rules Airlines stand by regarding that.

Luggage Feedback: i don’t see why not. i’ve seen people travel with duffel bags. i’ve never tried that as i have luggage but i have taken a back pack on a plane and a bus.

Luggage Feedback: Yes, a duffel bag is acceptable for both. Being retired military, I carried my duffel bag on both Greyhound as well as on numerous airlines. Just make sure that if you carry anything fragile, that you wrap it very good with bubble wrap or wrap your clothes around it. If you carry any fluids (i.e. cologne/perfume, medications), I would recommend puttin the stuff in zip lock bags. Also, get a TSA approved lock so that you will be able to lock your bag.
