Is a Coach duffel bag too big to bring as a carry-on for airlines?

Can you answer Sara G’s question about Luggage?:

I just bought a duffel bag thinking that I would be able to use it as a carry on, but now I’m thinking that its going to be too big for the carry on limits. I’m flying Delta.

Luggage Feedback: as long as it doesn’t exceed the weight limit

Luggage Feedback: Call Delta and ask them the dimensions they allow as carry-ons.

Luggage Feedback: Look on an official website, it’ll tell you the dimension limits for carry on luggage. Then measure your bag and hope for the best! X

Luggage Feedback: I don’t think so, if it can be squished a bit so that it fits under the seat. Or just put it in the overhead comp :)

Luggage Feedback: It should be fine as long as it’s not over packed.
Try to worry more about keeping the weight down that the size.

Luggage Feedback: check weight with ticket agent or airlines, but generally there okey.

Luggage Feedback: From Delta’s Web site:
How large can your carry-on bag be?

Must weigh less than 40 pounds (18 kg)
    Can’t exceed 45 inches (length + width + height)
Must fit easily in our SizeWise® unit (approximately 22″x14″x9″)
Must fit in an overhead bin or underneath the seat in front of you

I would expect that a duffle bag would fit, just do your best to board first so there’s plenty of space left available.

Luggage Feedback: It doesn’t matter if it’s Coach or if you bought it at Wal-Mart. Check the website for the dimensions that are allowed by the airline you are flying, then measure the duffel bag to see if it fits those dimensions.

Luggage Feedback: It shouldnt be, I know a lot of people that bring rolling suitcases as their carry on. And I normally bring a big book bag, so you should be good.

Luggage Feedback: it’s not too big, just don’t exceed the weight limit and you’d be fine. And sometimes, they don’t even check the weight limit. I just came back from vacation, and they aloud people with HUGE carry ons on board. My mom’s bag didn’t even fit in the overhead and we had to empty half before take off.

Luggage Feedback: i don’t think so i brought duffel bags on an airplane several times, and it coach if the airline attendants say something they know absolutely nothing about traveling in style

Luggage Feedback: It depends on its size when packed. It must be able to fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartments. Most U.S. domestic, non commuter airlines allow a suitcase of 22″x14″x9″ as carry on. Many allow a second smaller item as well such as a tote, cosmetic bag, briefcase, etc. For some international flights the size restriction may be 18″x14″x9″. This is a recommended carry-on size and will vary from airline to airline so you need to check the website for the airline to be certain to get the correct information. Here is one link that may be of some help.

Luggage Feedback: Maybe you could tell us the dimensions. It’s kinda hard to give you an answer when we don’t know wtf you are talking about. The airlines determine if it fits their particular rules by length x width x height = weight. They are also almost all different. The european airlines are really crazy, there is one that allows you 3 carry-ons with a total weight of 30 lbs. The empty luggage weighs nearly that.
