What is the best way to pack carry-on luggage?Answered By Editor Use a bag that will fit all the things you need to take but also small enough to fit the airline's size requirements for carry-on luggage. Consider a soft-sided bag. It can serve as a pillow if you become stranded at an airport. Airlines have strict rules about what items can and cannot be carried on an airplane. For example, no sharp edges of any kind are allowed. Each airline's requirements are different and change from time to time, so check with your airline a few days before traveling for the most recent list of excluded carry-on items. What are the bare minimum items to put in your carry-on? Consider the following: * Medications. Aside for your necessary medicines, you may also want to include something for motion sickness. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) allows all necessary medical supplies on flights, including insulin and needles. You will need to "declare" them to the screening officers and carry them in a way for easy inspection. The diabetic needles may also need to be accompanied by the prescribed insulin. Check your airline's guidelines. * A water bottle. Keeping well hydrated is important as airplane air tends to be dry. You will be glad to have a water bottle if you get stranded at an airport and do not want to leave your belongings in search of a water fountain. * Snacks. Never count on having time to stop for something to eat while traveling. Be sure to include a pack of wet wipes for quick wash-up. * Two changes of underwear * A set of extra clothes. This is especially helpful to have for long flights. You may want to freshen up somewhere during your trip. * Daily toiletries -- toothbrush and toothpaste, facial care products, contact lens solution and case and a small bottle of shampoo and lotion. All of these should be packed in plastic zip-up storage bags in case of spills. * Sweater or wrap to keep warm. These things may or may not be available in transit, and you want to be prepared for temperature changes. * Some good reading material. Along with this you might want to include some ear plugs. keywords: Luggage | Baggage | Suitcase | Travel Bag | Carry On Luggage | Medications | Clothing | Toiletries
