Unclaimed Luggage - Finding a Bargain in Scottsboro, Alabama

By Mark Stileman

Summer arrives and you hop on a plane and head to Palm Beach international Airport to go and visit your mom, whom you have not seen in a while. You are excited about telling her all about your new love who may just be "the one" and the new responsibilities you have been given at work. You are awaiting your first bite of those mashed potatoes that only mom seems to be able to make. All these thoughts run through your head as you stand there at the baggage claim area and suitcases and brown boxes make their circular path by you repeatedly. Soon, you realize that your new Vera Bradley luggage is nowhere to be found, and your revelry ends as you begin to panic. Most likely, your bag will be found and returned to you quickly, usually within a day or two, but sometimes, sometimes that bag is forever lost. Where do such items eventually end up? They take their own flight to Scottsboro, Alabama where they make their new home at the Unclaimed Baggage Center.

So, how exactly does this information relate to finding a bargain? Simply put, if you never get that Vera Bradley bag back, it is probably in the Unclaimed Baggage Center, where the owners of the massive store will sell your belongings at ridiculously low prices. That is where the bargain part comes in. If you want to find clothes, cell phones, cameras, laptops, gifts, reading material, or anything else small enough to fit in a large suitcase, you can probably locate it in Scottsdale; and someone probably got their hands on your new wrinkle-free skirt for way less than you paid for it right before your trip to Florida, too.

The owners of the Unclaimed Baggage Center generally just buy the luggage whose owner cannot be found right from the airport, without ever even seeing the contents. There is just no telling what might be in there, but whatever it is, it is probably going to sell to someone. If it doesn't sell, the store donates it to an appropriate place. For example, books might be sent to a local school or library and baby clothes might be sent to a women's shelter. So, shopping professionals, if you are thrilled by finding a true bargain experience, you can go hunting in Alabama.
