19 British Airports Facilitate the Rules of Hand Luggage Transportation

By Iuri Tarabanov

Henceforth air-travelers shall be able to carry to the cabin two bags, rather than one as before.

This significant facilitation was implemented only in 22 airports, including Heathrow, the biggest of them. It was permitted to increase the limit of hand luggage for air-travelers after establishment of modern scanners that significantly fasten luggage checks without prejudice to safety. The airports that have not installed the new equipment shall function according to the old rules. This also refers to the London's Gatwick, the second airport in the country from the point of view of functioning capacity. You shall be able to carry to the cabin only one bag. It shall be reminded that the regime "one passenger - one unit of hand luggage" was introduced in the British airports in summer of the year before last. This led to an abrupt increase in luggage loss. According to the polls, approximately 10 percent of passengers have either lost their luggage, or suffered from its substitution ever since. The total value of the so called "luggage claims" reached the record index of 163 million dollars last year. The companies have already reimbursed the victims approximately two million dollars.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Great Britain, this facilitation shall not influence the restriction on transporting liquids in the cabin. Air-travelers shall as before be able to carry along no more than one liter of liquid, each container comprising not more than 100 ml. However, this regulation change will positively influence the passenger traffic in these airports and therefore the turnover of the airline companies.
